On a deserted island

Lost: Season 1

Wow.

I've only seen the first three episodes and I'm hooked.

When I first saw ads for "Lost," I thought it was just some show cooked up to capitalize on the "Survivor" craze, but now I'm blown away.

I love how the characters are revealed so slowly. First, it makes it a little easier to keep up. The producers/writers must have realized that it would be insane to try to develop all the characters in the first couple of episodes because there are so many. Also, it adds to the suspense. Each episode provides just a few more details about a couple of characters, which sometimes just raises more questions -- as if there aren't enough of those to go around as it is.

Then there's the island, which seems to be the paramount mystery, and a character unto itself. I'm not going to say any more, because I don't want to ruin anything for anyone who hasn't seen it yet (like I have a lot of room to talk, I've seen only three episodes).

If you don't care about spoilers, you can check out Liz's entries on Warm Glow, and I'm sure there's plenty of talk on various "Lost" forums.

As for me, I'm going to avoid any references to the show until I'm caught up.

by the way, you're in for a whole lot more of that "wow" stuff...enjoy.

I told myself I was only going to watch the first episode last night because I had to get up early this morning, but I watched three. It was a little tougher to get out of bed, but totally worth it. It's totally my kind of suspense. At the risk of putting some people off, I want to say it feels similar to an M.Night Shyamalan film (but I'm not really a connoiseur of the genre, so that maybe should be taken with a grain of salt or two).

yeah, i think mns's style is a good comparison. lots of little clues strewn in with flashbacks. and then some episodes are capped with sweeping revelations in near-lyrical montages. the character development is amazing, and it all just unfolds beautifully. it's shows like this that make the other 90 percent of TV bearable. but then i only let myself watch this stuff on DVD so i get everything at once. :)
i couldn't stop at the first season, by the way. i've managed to get my hands on season 2 up through episode 8.

Ok, don't give anything away cuz as soon as I get done with Sex and the City season six part 2 I'm moving on to Lost. I saw one of the first episodes last year and loved it.

I haven't gotten into Lost, mainly because Thursday is shower night. ;-)

I plan on Netflix'ing the first season though, Matt seems to enjoy the episodes he catches.
