Looking ahead to aught-six

Here are my quantifiable New Years resolutions (listed in Fibonacci sequence):

  • Zero credit card balance by Dec. 31

  • Post one entry per week to cmerrill.com

  • Write one handwritten letter each month

  • Buy two new CDs per month

  • Be able to run three miles in 25.5 minutes

  • Leave the state five times

  • Spend eight days in Paris, France

  • Read 13 books

  • Prepare/cook 21 meals per month

  • Produce and upload 34 minutes of audio/video content

And I think I will try to follow these qualitative goals from the BBC (thanks, Freddy!).

Tell me more about "Produce and upload 34 minutes of audio/video content". You mean all at once? Or over the course of the year?

Thirty-four minutes worth of smaller projects over the course of the year. About three minutes a month whether in small 30-second chunks or several minute pieces.

Note to self: add credit-card payoff to list of New Year's Resolutions.

Also -- when are you going to France?!?!?!?! Wanna hit London instead? We speak the language.... :-)

I hear Tanzania is the place to see in the coming year. Everybody will be going there.

I'm actually planning a two week trip with a week (8 days) in Paris and then taking the train to London for just under a week. This will be sometime in September, so if anyone wants to coordinate visits, that would be awesome. I'll probably confirm dates sometime in February.

is that going to interfere with goal (a)?

I think I'll still be able to accomplish goal (a). If I budget well enough (and stick to the budget), I think I'll be OK. The 21 meals goal will help in that regard because I won't be eating out as much.

Oh, and one more thing -- in high school, at the peak of my running fitness, I could do 3.1 (hilly) miles in 26:26, and that's the fastest I ever got. Good luck with your training!
